A practical guide to sharing files with OpenBeam
Share large files from your browser
OpenBeam helps you send files when email attachments are too small for the job. Use it to deliver a video, hand over design assets, share documents, or send a project folder to someone working elsewhere. Start in your browser, select what you want to upload, and wait for the transfer to finish before sending the resulting link. You do not need to install a separate desktop application to use the upload pages.
Choose files or keep a folder together
Use the file upload page when you want to send individual items. Choose folder upload when related documents and assets belong together, such as a client delivery, a collection of photographs, or project materials. Before uploading, check that you selected the intended files and removed anything the recipient should not receive. The upload interface shows the current limits and available options. Check those details for your account rather than assuming every file or folder will fit.
Prepare for a reliable transfer
Large transfers need time and a stable connection. Keep the upload page open while it is working, watch the progress indicator, and wait for a success message. If a transfer is interrupted, follow the recovery or resume options shown in the interface. Do not treat a copied address or a completed progress bar as proof that a recipient can already download everything. Confirm that the upload has finished and the sharing result is available before distributing the link.
Choose how your files can be accessed
Review the sharing settings before sending a link. Where available for your account and upload, password protection and link expiry can help you control access. Choose an expiry period that gives the recipient enough time to download the files. If you set a password, send it through a separate communication channel. Treat a share link as sensitive: people who receive it may be able to access the content, depending on the restrictions you selected.
Send a clear handover to your recipient
Copy the generated link and send it directly to the intended recipient through your usual communication channel. Explain what the delivery contains, whether a password is needed, and when access expires. Ask the recipient to confirm that they can open the page and obtain the files they need. For supported formats, previews can help them check the content before downloading. Keep your original files until the handover is complete, especially when the shared copy is temporary.
Find the right help for your next upload
Use the file and folder upload pages to start another transfer, or read the FAQs when you have questions about access and sharing. The OpenBeam blog contains additional file sharing guides. If you need to compare account options, review the current plans and the features listed for each one. File sharing works best when the delivery is organized, the recipient understands how to access it, and the chosen settings match how long the content needs to remain available.
